Frequently Asked Questions

Below, you will find some of the questions frequently asked on AceIRC.

1. Is it free to setup a chatroom, or register a nickname?

Yes, both channel registration and nickname registration are free! Visit our commands pages to learn how.

2. Does AceIRC have a help channel?

Indeed we do! Our help channel is entitled #help, you may join and speak to an oper or community helper about any questions you might have.

3. Can I bring my bot on AceIRC?

Yep, you can. Most bots are allowed, however we do not allow dcc/file sharing bots, or any type of botnet, spam bot, porn bot, etc. To have your bot in any other channels but your own, we'd appreciate it if you'd ask the owner of the prospective channel first. Also, we'd like to have bots on AceIRC set to bot mode (usermode +B)

4. What is PATH?

PATH is an IRC-based homework help service, ran by teachers. We'd appreciate it if you wouldn't idle in these rooms, and simply don't join unless you have a question for the teachers that run PATH.

5. Where can I get a bot?

You can have a services bot in your channel simply by assigning one through BotServ (IRC commands index). If you don't like any of the bots we have available, don't worry, you can request a custom BotServ bot by speaking with a services administrator in #help. If you'd like a bot that can do functions beyond BotServ's current capability (trivia, etc.), there are plenty of bots in #bots, which you can speak to the bot owner to have it placed in your channel.

6. How can I contact an IRC op?

You can contact an IRC operator many ways, but the easiest way is to join #help! If you need to contact a staff member that's not in #help, you could use MemoServ to send them a memo, or private-message them on IRC, if they're connected. You could also make a post in the AceIRC Support Forum at http://forums.aceirc.org.
